Xavier Labandeira Villot
Master’s degree in environmental and Natural Resource Economics from University College London (1994) and European PhD from the Universidade de Vigo (1998). Professor in the Department of Applied Economics since 2009 and member of the REDE research group at the Universidade de Vigo, where he has taught public and environmental economics and coordinated the (official) Master in Sustainable Development Management between 2008 and 2014. Director of Economics for Energy since 2010, a research centre participated by universities and companies that seeks to create and transmit rigorous knowledge to the different agents of Spanish society on energy issues. He is a research affiliate of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR) at MIT. Between 2014 and 2017 he was director of the Florence School of Regulation-Climate at the European University Institute (Florence), a centre specialising in the economic analysis of EU climate policies. He was part of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), for the preparation of the Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports (completed in 2014 and 2022) respectively as lead author and review editor. He held the Chair on Economics of Climate Change at the Fundación de Estudios de Economía Aplicada (FEDEA) between 2007 and 2009. He participated in the Committee of Experts for the preparation of the White Paper on the Reform of the Spanish Tax System, presented in March 2022.
