The UVigo Governing Council approves the creation of the ECOBAS Interuversity Research Center

In its new stage, the Interuniversity Center already has 16 guarantors, researchers of recognized prestige from the three Galician universities.
The Strategic Grouping ECOBAS (Economics and Business Administration for Society), created in 2015, begins a new stage with the aim of obtaining recognition as an Interuniversity Research Center of the Galician University System (SUG) in the coming months. This process has officially started with the approval of the Center by the Governing Council of the University of Vigo in its ordinary session celebrated last Friday, May 14.
The ECOBAS Inter-University Center is born with the firm intention of becoming a reference in the field of social sciences, more specifically with regard to environmental, social and economic sustainability. The main novelty is that it will cease to be a union of research groups by changing to a system of individual affiliation, in which those researchers from Galician universities who want to be part of this new project may formalize their applications, once the affiliation period has been opened, and the applications will be evaluated by an external committee.
So far ECOBAS already has 16 members, the guarantors of the Center, researchers of recognized prestige belonging to the three universities of the SUG: Adina Dumitru, Emma M. Iglesias, Jesús López, Marta Rey and José Manuel Sánchez for the UDC; Manel Antelo, María L. Loureiro and Juan Carlos Reboredo for the USC; and José María Da Rocha, Coral del Río, Mª Dolores Garza, Carlos Hervés, Xavier Labandeira, Santiago Lago, Mario Pansera and José H. Vázquez for the UVigo.

This transformation will result in a new way of working with the establishment of an ambitious scientific agenda and the implementation of activities aimed at achieving objectives such as attracting and retaining research talent of excellence, increasing funding (especially from European funds), promoting internationalization, improving postgraduate training programs, or fostering relations with the business community and administrations in the search for joint solutions to the main problems and needs of society.
